Zartman Construction Welcomes First of Third Generation to Family Business
NORTHUMBERLAND, Pa. – On July 3, the first of a third generation of Zartmans joined the family business as Daniel W. Zartman began his first day as a project manager and estimator with the company his grandfather, Gene Zartman, founded in 1973 and where his father, Dave Zartman, has been president for more than 11 years.
Dan Zartman joins Zartman Construction from James G. Davis Construction in Rockville, Md., where he spent five years in estimating and project management for commercial building projects ranging from $60 million to $180 million in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. He now hopes to bring some of the technologies he used in that market to the general contracting work that Zartman performs in central Pennsylvania.
“I’ve been introduced to a different way of interfacing technology with construction, and I really look forward to bringing a lot of cutting edge technologies to Pennsylvania and the construction market,” Dan Zartman says.
“The design side of the industry is further along in its transition to designing in 3D than we are as contractors; we’re still building from 2D paper drawings,” says Dan Zartman. “I’ve seen the value, for both the contractor and the customer, in constructing the building virtually in advance of construction – specifically in its ability to eliminate and reduce change orders, reduce time and improve accuracy. For example, I’ve used 3D scanners to size and fabricate $8 million worth of replacement windows in dramatically less time – and with higher accuracy – than when using traditional practices. When it’s done manually, surveying a building site is more expensive and less accurate than surveying with a scanner. I look forward to providing this service, and other preconstruction services like it, to local design professionals and owners through the use of 3D scanning and point cloud generation, because a good set of drawings is essential to having a successful project.”

Dan Zartman holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree of architectural engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. A licensed airplane pilot, he also enjoys mountain biking and hunting.
